The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the highly anticipated details for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 auction. The auction will see 120 cricketers, including 91 Indian and 29 international players, go under the hammer. This auction is set to take place on December 15 in Bengaluru.
Auction Date and Timing
The WPL 2025 auction will be held on December 15, 2024, starting from 3:00 PM IST. Cricket enthusiasts will be able to watch the bidding process live on Sports 18 and JioCinema.
Player List Breakdown
A total of 120 players are set to be auctioned. This includes:
- 91 Indian players: 9 capped and 82 uncapped.
- 29 overseas players: 21 capped and 8 uncapped, with 3 players from associate nations.
The franchises will compete to acquire new talent for their squads, with a total of 19 slots available, including 5 reserved for overseas players.
Retained and Released Players
In preparation for the auction, the five franchises confirmed their retained and released players in November. Among them, the Gujarat Giants have the largest available purse at Rs. 4.40 crore, giving them significant room to make strategic acquisitions.
WPL 2025 Season and Defending Champions
The WPL 2025 season will take place in February and March 2025, and the RCB Women will enter the competition as the defending champions. Under the leadership of Indian opener Smriti Mandhana, RCB clinched the title in the previous season and will look to defend their crown in the upcoming season.
